Libertango's Saturday classes are continuing in 2002 at 'You
Should Be Dancing' studio, starting at the usual time of 2pm, with the
ongoing mission of providing a place to learn in safety and trust, that we may
be well-rounded dancers, at once grounded in solid technique and carried on
inspiration.
To this end, we blend drills and exercises, on the one hand, with invention
and playfulness on the other. Each class consists of some warmup exercises for
balance and musicality, followed by progressively more difficult steps for the
duration of the 1-1/2 hours. We cover a thorough curriculum all the way to
"black-belt" level, continuing to develop the underlying skills of
balance, pivoting, walking, holds, weight-changes, syncopations, agility and so
on.
In a nonjudgmental atmosphere, we develop the tango poise, along with each
individual's unique interpretation of music, and encourage freedom of leading
and following, irrespective of gender.
The ultimate goal is that we all grow into our own choreographers, musical
interpreters, and inventors of the dance. It is poetry written by our feet. The
classes impart the words, language skills, and fluidity that underlie this most
spectacular and beautiful of arts.
